Michael Ballack will miss World Cup due to injury

The experienced 33 year old German captain will miss this summer's World Cup in South Africa due to an ankle injury.

May 17, 2010 - PRLog -- The German Football Federation announced that Ballack will not go to the 2010 World Cup following a right ankle injury sustained in Saturday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth, after a reckless challenge by Kevin Prince-Boateng, that forced him to leave the pitch before the half time interval.

Ballack’s ankle buckled after the violent tackle by Boateng and even though Ballack still tried to play on, he was forced to leave with his leg in a protective boot. The 33-year-old underwent an MRI scan in Munich this Monday morning to assess the damage.

After undergoing the MRI scan, it was revealed that that he had damaged the ligaments in his right ankle, as a result of that violent tackle. During the next two weeks, Ballack will have to wear a cast, before he can start his recovery process. According to Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, team doctor of the German national side, Michael Ballack will not return to the football fields for at least eight weeks.
