Follow on Google News | Beijing prepares to welcome the 2010 TTCN-3 Asia User ConferenceThe 2010 conference for users of the test specification language TTCN-3 will take place in Beijing, China, in June.
By: Paul Reid, ETSI The conference will take place in the High-Tech Mansion of the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and is being organized jointly by ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and the Beijing Internet Institute (Bii) Group. Technical support to the event is being provided by Huawei. Testing is now a multi-billion dollar business and is a key phase in any serious development process. Over the last ten years TTCN-3 (Testing and Test Control Notation version 3) has become the de facto standardised test language, with global deployment in telecommunications, transportation, internet, medical, web-based services and distributed systems. Its versatility ensures it an effective role in functional conformance testing, load testing, performance and interoperability testing. TTCN-3 was developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and is the only standardized test specification language. It has also been adopted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). TTCN-3 has all the benefits of a standardized software language. With TTCN-3, test systems move from being expensive proprietary solutions designed for a single purpose to highly adaptive software test platforms that support a variety of tests that may be used throughout system development, system approval and acceptance tests. From its European roots, the language has established itself extensively in Asia – especially in China, where it has experienced a rapid uptake in recent years. Its expanding application in many different technology domains has resulted in a huge growth of the TTCN-3 community, and it is the aim of the conference to enable the positive experiences of this community to be shared. TTCN-3 examination Testing projects can involve numerous developers and can produce more than 100 000 lines of code. A high level of code quality is fundamental and this demands well-trained, highly-qualified testing specialists. To this end, a TTCN-3 certification scheme has been established, based on a syllabus established by the German Testing Board. During this event, as at previous TTCN-3 user conferences, participants will have the opportunity to take the TTCN-3 Certificate examination. The examination, which is designed to confirm candidates' abilities to design and plan project-specific tests and formalize them in TTCN-3, will take place on 9 June at the conference venue, the High-Tech Mansion of BUPT in Beijing. # # # About ETSI ETSI produces globally-applicable ICT standards, including fixed, mobile, radio, converged, aeronautical, broadcast and IP technologies.
