Newton Abbot have become the first horse racecourse to sponsor the classic puppy championship following the last minute withdrawal from long-term sponsor Skybet. The Gymcrack heats are due to take place next Wednesday and, alongside the semi-finals, will be shown in betting shops around the country. The Gymcrack finals will take place on June 8th and will be televised on Sky Sports. Stephen Rea, General Manager at Hall Green said: “This is a real first for our sport as it is the first time that a horse racecourse has sponsored one of our top races. The Gymcrack has long been seen as the top juvenile race in mid-summer and usually throws up the following year’s Greyhound Derby favourite.” Pat Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse commented: “We’re delighted to announce our new sponsorship deal with Hall Green.
