Saraella Ursery Documentary in Preproduction at Bethel AME Church, Perris, California

Director Lovelace Lee III tackles the task of documenting Saraella Ursery's 97 years of living and her 64 amazing years of service to one church--Bethel AME Church, in Perris California. The entire congregation is involved in this documentary.

May 21, 2010 - PRLog -- “The Lord gave me this documentary,” said first-time director Lovelace Lee III.  Saraella Ursery, 97, is the last founding member of 64-year-old Bethel AME Church located in Perris, California about 80 miles east of Los Angeles.  Sister Ursery will tell her story to Lee.
Lee was talking with Sister Ursery one day after church and she blurted out, “I’m the only one left. All the others have passed on.” Ursery was telling him that she was the last of the founding members of Bethel who is still living. Immediately Lee knew there was a story to tell. He prepared a presentation for the Official Board of Bethel and they approved his plan to create a documentary to chronicle Sister Ursery’s amazing life and 64 years of service to Bethel AME, Perris. Sister Ursery is an usher and member of the Women’s Missionary Society.
Lee has written eight feature-length film scripts; three with writing partner Kevin Norwood. They will produce the documentary with newcomer Fouché Francois Jr., a film & video production major at the prestigious Art Institute of California—Los Angeles. “Lovelace and I will always create an opportunity for new talent to work,” said Norwood. “Saraella Ursery: Pillar of Bethel AME Church, Perris” is in preproduction. Lee has asked the congregation to allow him to use their old photos, programs and church documents from the last 64 years to help tell Sister Ursery’s story. The documentary is being made due to the congregation’s generous support. “Our goal is to have the completed documentary on DVD in time for the Southern California Annual Conference of the AME Church, in September,” Lee said.
