There are many sites that go downhill simply because they failed to meet their audiences' expectations. They fail to furnish professional, coherent and complete information. According to research most people use internet for information and if your site lacks this critical component then it will be very difficult for it to excel.

In order to make an effective use of your website and for it to help your business heighten you need to invest some time and money to make it powerful enough. Few ways you can accomplish this is by following the seven design strategies listed below.

1. Provide Persuasive Content
Content is king and it's only true if it has a kingdom of "healthy" information. What I mean by this is that information that you are trying to deliver to your audience should offer value. In other words, no one is going to come back to you site if you offer same details that every other site does. You need to make it unique, persuasive and promote it with ideas, tips or techniques that will solve the user's problem, or give the user more insight on a particular subject. Some of the sites that I critiqued lacked this very critical strategy. The description of a product or service was listed but there was no indication of how that particular product or service will benefit the user. Relay the benefits - your existing customers and prospects would appreciate it!

2. Easy Navigation
If a user visits your site and can not figure out how to navigate to another page of your website then that's a huge issue. You will lose their interest right there. Ability to browse through the site without difficulty keeps the user longer on your site. Navigation or menu bar should be included on all the pages of your site with a consistent location. Having it located at different areas of the site may confuse them.

3. Avoid overloading the page with images/graphics/banners
This is a pretty common issue that I've discovered while critiquing websites. I found some pages choked with animated graphics and banners. Its true animated images grab the attention but too many can become very distracting to the users. You also need to consider the location of these images. Having a banner located at the top or bottom of a page, left or right side of the page is quite common. If you have articles then try not to include banners after every paragraph. Too many blinking items can also abate your visitor's enthusiasm about your website.

4. Avoid Image Backgrounds
There are not so great benefits of using an image background. In fact, there are drawbacks such as slows down page-loading time. I have interviewed many internet users and most common problem that most of them stated was page-loading time. According to them, this is the most frustrating and annoying issue where they have to wait minute after minute for the page to be displayed. Visibility is another common issue associated with image background. If the font color, size and type are not selected cautiously then it can drive readability disappointments.

5. Make it Spelling Error-Free
How disappointing can it be if you go to a site and find words spelled incorrectly? That signifies that the writer or owner of the website does not utilize constructive quality control methodology or does not take his or her website seriously. Many of us tend to forget how powerful a website can be if it has a reputable and professional image. In order to make a website prominent, any information posted should be carefully critiqued for spelling errors.

6. Include Contact Information
I've seen many websites lacking this very important information for their visitors. How is the person visiting your site is supposed to get more information on products or service that you provide if there is no way to contact you. There should be at least some way for them to contact you for more information. If you prefer not to include a phone number then do include an email address. If you do not have either a phone number or email address available then let your users know so that they do not continue wasting their time hunting for that information. This courteous approach would reflect professionalism and genuineness of your business administration.

7. Include Information About Your Business
You probably have seen that many professional sites include "About Us" page. This is a great way to let the visitors know who or what your business is about. Including this page also offers you an opportunity to express the services or products you provide plus why it makes your business different and unique from your competitors. Add details that are compelling and entices your visitor's interest. I am always curious to find out how and what a business does before making any purchase or commitments. This confirms assurance and eliminates uncertainty.

Your website is the gateway to your business and by implementing the seven design strategies portrayed above will not only help your venture grow and excel but also strengthen its reputation of professionalism.

A good-designed website opens doors to more traffic hence increases the business success rate.
