Maryland Hyundai Dealer Passionate About Hope On Wheels Fundraiser Battling Childhood Cancer

May 28, 2010 - PRLog -- 2010 marks the twelfth year for Hyundai Motor Corp.’s Hope on Wheels campaign to battle childhood cancer.  Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels organization started as an effort from a group of New England Hyundai dealerships to raise funds benefiting local children hospitals.  

All 780 dealerships across the country are showing their support for the summer long event, including Preston Hyundai, a Maryland Hyundai Dealer.  John Skalstad, General Manager for Preston Hyundai, said, “Hope on Wheels is an inspired fund raiser and just an overall great cause.  We could not be happier to be a part of this event.”  Dealerships like Preston will be offering lower sales pricing to increase inventory turnover as $5 from each sale of a new Hyundai is donated to the cause.

The Hope on Wheels tour has already held kick off events at its Montgomery plant in Alabama and The New York International Auto Show.  The tour will travel to 42 children’s hospitals donating checks to support doctors researching childhood cancer.  This year Hope on Wheels will donate more than $2 million which will be the largest single year of donations in the organizations history.

Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels organization uses a white Santa Fe covered with the colorful handprints of real childhood cancer patients from all over the U.S.  The hand prints are meant to represent personal milestones in the child’s battle with cancer and inspire others to have courage and hope to continue fighting the battle.  This year Hyundai has selected Brianna Commerford to act as the Hope on Wheels ambassador, as she embodies the spirit of the organization and has been in remission since October of 2009 after battling stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Hyundai has collected hundreds of hand prints and plans on adding many more during this summer’s tour.  To date Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels has managed to raise more than $14 million towards childhood cancer research.
