By: Scott Kennedy Eco's Managing Director, Gary Billington was first inspired to make a financial contribution to the two local charities when he met 3 year old Daisy Prichard, from Wrexham, who suffered a stroke following heart bypass surgery at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital shortly after she was born. Gary, who made his money in the concrete industry, was so touched by the plight of David and Eileen Pritchard’s 3 year old daughter, Daisy, that he has pledged all of his company’s profits to charity and carry out other fund raising activities throughout the year. The first of which is his participation in the ‘Iron Man France’ event. Here, Gary will have to endure a 112 mile bike ride, a 2.4 mile swim and a 26 mile marathon run. A fantastic achievement in itself, even more so when you take into account the fact that Gary cannot swim and is terrified of the water. Gary said, “I started learning to swim in October and being scared of the water, it has not come naturally, but compared to what Daisy and children like her have to endure the Iron Man event is a drop in the ocean.” With help, support and sheer determination, Daisy is now making massive improvements on a daily basis. After being told that she would never walk again she is now able to push a pram. “She is an inspiration to all those who come into contact with her” said Gary. “Her smile, love of life and battle to overcome her disability, even at the tender age of three is humbling to everyone she meets. I am very proud to be associated with any activity that raises valuable funds for charities that help children like Daisy.” Running a charity is an expensive business. It costs in excess of £1 million every year to run charities like Hope House and Ronald McDonald House, which rely almost entirely upon donations like the one Eco-Readymix is pledging. "In order to help raise the profits of the company, and therefore donations to both of the charities, we would welcome our customers and other local businesses to help support our campaign in any way possible," said Gary.
