Performance Ford in Omaha Ready to Sell Ford Hybrid Cars and Parts Created by New Jobs in Michigan

The Ford Motor Company has pledged to invest $135 million in parts for hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as to hire 220 new workers by 2012.

June 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The announcement shows Ford’s commitment to cutting edge technology.  The basis of the new hybrid vehicles will be Ford’s next generation of midsize cars and crossover vehicles.  Ford plans to introduce five electric vehicles to the U.S. in 2012.

Performance Ford of Omaha is thrilled about this announcement and excited to show off the results of Ford’s new technology to their customers.   “Ford was founded on invention and innovation and it is incredible to see this great American company resurrect itself as a technology leader as well as bringing jobs back to the United States,” said Kevin Bird, General Manager.

Ford’s plan includes moving production from a factory in Mexico to Rawsonville, MI, where 170 positions will be added to produce lithium-ion battery packs.  At the transmission plant in Van Dyke, MI, 50 electric vehicle engineers will be added to design, engineer and produce electric drive transaxles, which are currently imported from Japan.

The announcement shows an effort to bring production of key electric vehicle technology within Ford.  “We’re not only bringing work back here to the good old United States, but we’re bringing it in-house from an outside supplier,” said Mark Fields, Ford President of the Americas.

This will be made possible in part by funds from the U.S. Department of Energy, which has budgeted money for modernizing factories to produce more fuel efficient vehicles.
