Follow on Google News | Xlibris Publisher Releases Self Published Book on Guyana Culture in A Culinary PresentationDeborah Barocas' Self Published Cookbook Guyana's Tasty Exotic Made it to BookExpo America 2010
By: Kristine Roa Eight-two pages of colorful illustrations fuses recipes and pictures that showcase Guyanese cuisine and the South African continent's rich culture. The nostalgia this cookbook brings to Guyanese abroad features a smorgasboard of meals such as Cantonese Fried Rice, Curried Chicken , Metemgee, Garlic pork, Pepperpot, and Shepherds Pie. The only thing that sets this cookbook apart from any cookbook is the colorful cultural presentation of Guyana, its people, its arts and rituals. "Like New York, Guyana has many ethnic types, brought together under British rulership. Our foods come from the backgrounds of Amerindians, Africans, Indians, Portuguese, Chinese, and of course the British. We've been truly blessed in our blended society," says Xlibris Publisher author Deborah Barocas. The recipes come with detailed instructions and ingredient listings that any cook can easily follow. The typical Guyanese cook has an array of ingredients to choose from, and utilizes them with great skill, thus creating delicious meals for their families. Guyana’s Cultural Association (GCA) is proud to recommend Guyana’s Tasty Exotic, the self published book that made it to this year's exhibit at the BookExpo America. About the Author Deborah Barocas grew up in Guyana, SA. At the early age of nine, she developed a love for cooking and meandered in the kitchen, with her Mom and Grandmother, where she developed her culinary skills. Her daily jaunts to the markets where upon fresh fare was selected for the day’s meal was a highlight for her. After she migrated to the United States, she continued her culinary exploits with ventures into the many ethnic food arenas that awaited her. Yet, she always seemed to return to the roots amassed with beautiful memories of her homeland’s rich culture and exotic foods. Writing this book is her tribute to her beautiful Guyana, for though she happily resides in New York with her husband and two sons, she incorporates many attributes from her Guyanese heritage some of which can always be found on her dinner table to the great delight of her family.
