Follow on Google News | Golfers Come To Assistance Of Walsall SoldiersScores of serving and retired soldiers are set to benefit from Walsall Golf Club’s annual Captain’s Day, after The Army Benevolent Fund was chosen as their charity for 2010-11.
By: Richard Swancott It is hoped the day will attract xx golfers, and generate more than £xx for servicemen and women who need financial assistance. Why did the Captain choose this charity? The event will be followed by a hot buffet, live music from xx and xx, and televised coverage of England’s fixture against the USA, their first match at this year’s World Cup finals. Club Captain xx said: "Hopefully, we'll enjoy a fantastic day of golf and entertainment but we are also looking to build on the success of the Rotary day and raise as much money for charity as possible." The Rotary Day featured twenty six teams from around the country, with some teams travelling from Kent and Burnley to participate, and was followed by a presentation dinner and raffle. A signed Walsall FC shirt and football was won by former Walsall manager Chris Nicholl! Event Co-ordinator Steve Ellis said: “The tournament has become an institution now with teams coming from all over the country. “Without the golf club’s support we would not be able, through the Rotary Organisation, to help those less fortunate than ourselves within the borough.” The Ladies’ Section of the Club is holding a Pink Day in aid of which cancer charity in July, which is being organised by woman's vice-president Margaret Franks.
