Broward Times Article Exposes Lack of Authority of Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency

Elgin Jones of The Broward Times, now the South Florida Times, was the first to uncover and expose the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency's lack of authority to have seized properties in Broward County Florida, yet the cover-up continues.

June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- The Broward Times, now called the South Florida Times, was the first media organization to cover the finding that the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency in Broward County, Florida wasn’t a legal agency and didn’t have the power of eminent domain to take properties, even though it had been stealing properties for a decade. Elgin Jones, longtime writer for the newspaper, has repeatedly uncovered and exposed government corruption in his column, Around South Florida, and was first to document the court ruling finding the CRA to be without authority in his article, “Redevelopment agency can’t seize business, judge rules.” Mr. Jones was recently shocked to hear that a five year-old eminent domain taking case of Pompano Beach CRA v Gil Eriksen Properties LLC is still going on from that time, even though the agency that filed the suit was found to have no authority to exist, let alone seize property.

Since the original coverage 3 years ago, the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the Pompano Beach Commission, and the Broward County Commission and circuit and district courts have attempted to ignore, deny, devalue, and cover-up the ruling and subsequent scandal, speculated to perhaps to avoid a class action by all those affected by the decade of illegal property seizures.

The problems facing the Community Redevelopment Agency have not ceased, however. As it stands now, the case whereby the property of Gil Eriksen Properties LLC was stolen by the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency with no authority is being seen as Constitutional offense, and is still open and unresolved after five years, which many are calling out as a further obstruction of justice, blockade of due process, and cover-up. The property owner is still owed $4 million dollars in restitution, even though the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency took possession of the private property four years ago, and has since destroyed it.
