Magyar Telekom offers the world’s first IPTV over cable service

June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Hungary’s Magyar Telekom announced recently that it will introduce the world’s first IPTV service cable television network using EuroDOCSIS 3.0 technology.

Based on a very high speed internet cable connection, the IPTV service will allow its users to record programs, stop live broadcasting and rewind content as well. Video-on-demand, EPG and DVR will also be part of the features.

Magyar Telekom had 678,000 TV subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2010, according to Dataxis Intelligence. Cable TV accounted for nearly 60% of the customer base, but fell 4% from last year.
Satellite services ended the quarter with 196,000 customers, while IPTV services attracted 79,000 subscribers, or 110% more customers than last year.
