Follow on Google News | They Thought Throwing A Sickie Was All Over…..it Is Now!UK business manages England match effectively – no hangover today, says sickness management specialist.
By: Quay West Communications Despite reports that up to 60% of employers required their staff to keep working during Wednesday’s England match, the expected mass rise in absence appears not to have materialised, partly because so many employers put strategies in place to accommodate the game. That’s the finding of sickness management company DHS, which suggested promoting shift swaps, granting unpaid leave and allowing for flexible hours. “A few of our clients even shut the door at 2.30Pm,” Philip Keller, DHS’s Head of Sales. “We put across the idea of screening the game on the premises, perhaps in the staff room or canteen. It appears to have worked since we saw no spike in absence on Wednesday if anything most of our clients stayed the same or, indeed, dropped! These pre-emptive implementations definitely kept the lid on the whole absence affair.” It is quite possible that with the BBC today reporting an estimated record breaking 800,000 concurrent stream peak watching the match online, it’s possible that many people stayed at their desks and watched sneakily on their PC. Moreover, DHS reports that a potential “hangover” “The inbound call volumes to our RGN Nurses has remained average for any given Thursday. Perhaps this again has been helped by the fact that it would be too obvious what the reason for the absence truly is, should somebody call in. Fellow employees of our clients would naturally be deeply suspicious,” In terms of other matches as the tournament progresses, although the UK is a multicultural society the ratio of overseas employee numbers are unlikely to be significant enough to have a noticeable effect. “Looking ahead, further progress through the tournament would see the England games being played at weekends at reasonable times. We along with our clients remain vigilant, but we appear, through being flexible and thinking ahead, to have come through the worst that may have occurred. UK wide this has also been mirrored and the conscience of the UK working population remains unblemished and clear,” adds Keller. Ends.
