Scotland's Hungama Festival Teams up with Oxfam

This year, Scotland’s Hungama Festival at M&D’s is proudly partnered with international aid agency, Oxfam.

June 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Oxfam is one of the world’s leading international aid charities, tackling poverty in over 70 countries worldwide. From saving lives and campaigning for change, to developing projects that put poor people in charge of their future, Oxfam provides support and resources wherever the need is greatest.

Scotland’s Hungama (meaning crazy-fun) festival at M&D’s is a family-fun, community based event established in 2009. Every event that Oceanic Consulting holds they always team up with a charity and the Hungama Festival is no different. This year they have teamed up with aid charity Oxfam. The link between Oxfam and Asia is strong and that is why they have decided to work together. Fozia Ali, Campaign Manager for Oceanic Group said; “The spirit of the Hungama festival is crazy-fun and that’s what we will be having on the 4th of July at M&D’s; there will be authentic South Indian flavours from the music to the exhibition stands for the whole family to enjoy. As with every event Oceanic Consulting organises we always support a charity. Oxfam have done extensive work throughout Asia, whether it is helping to protect people from flooding in Bangladesh to helping girls get an education in India, so we are proud to be partners.”

Oxfam has vast experience working in Asia, responding to emergencies such as the Pakistan earthquake, floods in Bangladesh and drought in Nepal. It also campaigns on issues affecting poor people’s lives, such as lack of access to medicines and education, women’s equality and climate change.

At Hungama, Oxfam will showcase its work and also feature its brand new pop-up shop, which made its debut last month in Selfridges in London, launched by Oxfam ambassador Annie Lennox. For Scotland’s Hungama, it will be customised to feature Asian accessories, lifestyle and fashion items, with all the proceeds going to Oxfam’s work overseas.

Katharine Hopper from Oxfam said:

“We are delighted to be involved in the Hungama Festival this year. Oxfam has worked in Asia for many years, not only responding to emergency situations, but also working with local communities.

“We’ll be around throughout the festival so that people can find out more about what we do and also have a look at some of the products in our brand new pop-up shop. It will be full of high-end vintage clothes, books, music and accessories, and all proceeds made from the sale of these items will go towards our work to overcome poverty and suffering around the world.”

This year’s Hungama event will take place at M&D’s, Scotland’s Theme Park in Strathclyde Country Park on July 4th between 1pm and 8pm. It will feature live entertainment such as authentic Indian music along with diverse singing and dancing talent. There will be a selection of stalls and booths offering authentic Indian food, as well as drinks and snacks. Mhendi artists will be in attendance and stalls will boast authentic jewellery and clothing.
