Ace's Owner Rides from Key West, Florida to Alaska for the Kids

Ace's owner, Charlie DePari joined over one thousand Harley Davidson riders in the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge on behalf of his favorite charity, leaving Key West, Florida on June 20th, to journey over 7,000 miles to Homer, Alaska.

June 29, 2010 - PRLog -- DePari rides to raise money for Give Kids the World, based in Kissimmee, Florida. Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization fulfilling the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Give Kids the World Village hosts the children and their families so they can enjoy all of Central Florida's attractions at no cost to them. DePari rides with the plush bunny rabbit mascot, known as Mayor Clayton, the honorable mayor of Give Kids the World Village, to help him raise funds for such a worthy cause! According to DePari, "This is an experience that means a lot to me, and finishing this ride will surely be one of my life’s greatest accomplishments. But the most memorable part of this event will be when I ride up to Give Kids the World Village and deliver a bag of checks made out to them for all those special kids."

The Hoka Hey Challenge consists of strict guidelines including checkpoints throughout the trip. “Hoka Hey” is a Lakota battle cry that means “good day to die,” and unfortunately in the race thus far, one rider has died in a crash in Wyoming. Riders will take to the back roads and byways, having to sleep alongside their bike on the way. Road maps and checkpoints are given to the riders on a day to day basis, so preparation is key, as desert scorpions, mountain lions, glaciers and bears test the grit and capability of each individual rider. The infamous Alcan Highway, a 1,390 mile long road consisting of mostly dirt, gravel and steep cliffs, poses its own risks for riders.

The Hoka Hey Challenge ends July 4th, in Homer, Alaska. However, two men, one from Florida and the other from South Carolina, crossed the finish line in Homer on June 28th at 4:20 a.m. Many more are expected to arrive in the next few days for the July 4th celebration in Homer. Your donations are tax deductible and truly appreciated.
