Follow on Google News | Sintons Discuss the pros and cons of The PDS ContractThe PDS+ contract (formally known as the Warburton contract) was finally launched in November 2009. As a practitioner advising dentists on a daily basis, the main advice is “beware”.
By: Amanda Maskery, Sintons LLP John Milne, Chair of the GDPC The PDS+ is very much one-sided and would have a huge impact on the everyday dental practice. The PDS+ is written in a way that it is difficult for lawyers themselves to interpret and is certainly not user friendly for the dental practitioners out there. The clinical and governance standards are so high, and requires complicated management processes to be put in place, taking freedom away from the dental practitioner and the running of his/her practice on a daily basis. The PDS+ may also have an impact on superannuation payments due to the way the payments under the contract are structured and it is certainly not clear how payments will be made. The contract contains indemnities in favour of the PCT which do not have a time limit attached to them. In short, our advice is to get as much information and advice as possible for bidding for the PDS+ - otherwise you might find the negatives outweighing the positives.
