July 3, 2010 - PRLog -- SIMS Copper is a subsidiary of Sims Singapore and it represents the SIMS Group’s move into the manufacturing business. The firm recently broke ground for a 36,000 metric tonnes per annum plant in Malaysia’s Port Klang Free Zone. When completed in 2010, the plant will produce copper wires and copper rods. It will have an initial monthly output of 1,000 metric tonnes. Over the next three years, SIMS Copper aims to produce 36,000 tonnes of copper products.

Having its own copper plant will give the group greater quality control over the products it now supplies to customers.

SIMS COPPER SDN BHD is expecting the plant to drive the growth in its businesses in order to achieve its vision 2020 of being a diversified listed entity with a USD 1 billion Group revenue and a leading position in the Copper Industry.

Production is expected to commence in Q4 2009 whilst Copper Rods should be on stream about mid 2010 at an initial output of 1000 metric tonnes monthly over the next three years.
