Follow on Google News | E-borneo.com offers adventure vacation promotion to Maliau Basin, Sabah, Malaysia BorneoHave an adventure vacation of a lifetime at Borneo's breathtaking "The Lost World" Maliau Basin. E-borneo.com is currently offering a unique ex-Kota Kinabalu (i.e., tour starts and ends in Kota Kinabalu) tour promotion for Maliau Basin packages.
Maliau Basin or also known as Maliau Basin Conservation Area, is a region in the Malaysian State of Sabah located on the island of Borneo, which represents a geological catchment surrounding the Maliau River. Dubbed as Borneo's "Lost World", it is one of the few remaining areas in the world virtually untouched by man! The Maliau Basin is distinguished by its almost circular perimeter outlined by a razor-sharp rim with steep slopes on all sides. The incredible Maliau Basin rim is about 25 km in diameter, which is slightly bigger than the Island of Singapore. The label “Lost World” which has been used to describe Maliau Basin was said “to be inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s story of the adventures of Professor Challenger in unknown territory northwest of Manaus (Brazil), where a lofty plateau was Maliau is as pristine, as incredibly self-contained and magical a place as could be found on Borneo which is one of the world’s everlasting icons of the splendour of nature.” (KM Wong, Malaysian Naturalist, Vol. 54/3). The Maliau Basin contains an unusual assemblage of 12 forest types, comprising mainly of lower montane forest dominated by majestic Agathis trees, rare montane heath forest and lowland and hill dipterocarp forest. There are over 40 species of dipterocarps as well as wild species related to well-known fruit trees, such as the rambutan, mangosteen, durian and jackfruit. These forests are also a refuge for rare and endangered animals such as Sumatran rhinoceros, banteng, proboscis monkey and Asian elephant, along with 182 species of birds. The highlight of the adventure is to trek through the rainforest to reach the Nepenthes Camp (more popularly known as the Camel Trophy Camp) and later, to reach the Lobah Camp (where you can catch the panoramic full view of the Maliau Basin rim at the Lobah Helipad), all the way to the majestic 7-tier Maliau Falls. According to Veronica Barik, the Managing Director of E-BORNEO.COM Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd, the company behind e-borneo.com, most of the present Maliau Basin tour packages are ex-Tawau, which is almost an hour by flight from KK, the capital city of Sabah. Veronica said that the overland journey from KK to Maliau Basin via Keningau will not only reduce the hassle of air travel but will provide a quality experience for travellers to appreciate the geographical landscape of Sabah before entering into the spectacular "Lost World". However, Veronica stressed that "these packages, especially the 4-day and 5-day, are categorized as "strenuous" and only suitable for the fit adventure travel enthusiasts. For those who are only reasonably fit, the 3-day option or its extension should be the preferred choice".
