Auditel Consultant James Bury runs four marathons to support BLESMA

July 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Prior to joining Auditel in October 2007, Auditel cost management specialist James Bury worked for British Airways and Orange, where he specialised in business strategy. James says: “ BLESMA is an amazing charity that supports those who have suffered serious injury serving their country. For every death reported in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are probably two or three very seriously wounded who are almost always young people with their whole lives ahead of them. While they can provide plenty of courage and determination, they do need specialist help, encouragement and opportunities to rebuild their lives.”

He recalls: “ Over Friday 25th and Saturday 26 th June, we shall attempt to run / walk the equivalent of four marathons in under 48 hours. This is just over 100 miles along the South Downs Way, starting in Winchester and finishing (hopefully!) in Eastbourne. I have never run a marathon before, so four almost non-stop will definitely be the hardest thing I have ever done!  It is of course a modest challenge compared to that faced by wounded servicemen, but it will be quite gruelling enough.”

At 8:20pm on Saturday, James and Thane had finished the main "run" of 102.5 miles and 12,600 ft of climb in 39 hours. They then carried on to complete the goal of 105 miles, 4 marathons, in under 48hrs. James adds: “I had to stand on the full train back to Winchester, and after a snooze in the car got home at 4:45am on Sunday. Apart from some wear and tear, I feel great and am really thrilled with the wonderfully generous support for BLESMA. A big thank you to everyone - that support made all the difference when it looked like it might be difficult to finish. Also very special thanks to Thane Hall for coming up with the idea, and proving a faultless navigator even at night after 70 miles non-stop!”

James and Thane had set a target of £1,ooo and so far they have raised over £2000.00.
