New York, NY -   Richard P. Brown, MD, author of HOW TO USE HERBS, NUTRIENTS, AND YOGA IN MENTAL HEALTH CARE (WW Norton), and internationally renowned pioneer of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine), will lead a workshop entitled "Breath~Body~Mind: A Seminar for People Who Want to Improve Their Quality of Life,” Friday July 23, from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and Saturday, July 24, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Stone Mountain Counseling Center, 310 River Road Extension, in New Paltz, New York.

Breath~Body~Mind is a unique fusion of breath, movement and meditation techniques derived from yoga, Qi Gong, orthodox Christian monks, Buddhism, and modern science. These powerful self-regulation techniques relieve anxiety, improve focus and increase well-being.

Coherent Breathing, Victory Breathing, and Breath Moving enhance and optimize brain, heart, and lung function while stimulating the healing, calming, recharging parts of the nervous system. Open Focus meditation can be used to relieve physical and emotional pain.

Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York.   He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation.

Stone Mountain Counseling Center, opened in 1996 by Stephen Larsen, PhD, Psychology Professor Emeritus from SUNY Ulster, New York, offers psychotherapy and biofeedback for patients, and training for students and professionals.   Stone Mountain Center is hosting Dr. Brown’s workshop in conjunction with the non-profit Center for Symbolic Studies.  

The cost for the seminar is $150 for non-MD health care providers, $125 for yoga teachers, and $75 for students and seniors.  Lunch on Saturday is $10.00. Participants are encouraged to bring mats, blankets, pillows, etc. which will help them to feel comfortable sitting and lying on the floor.  The workshop is currently full but information for other workshops can be found at (845)658-8083.
