Marc Roberts, Chairman and CEO of WWES Signs Prominent Boxing Writer Michael Katz (Recap)

July 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Marc Roberts and Worldwide Entertainment & Sports Corp. ,  announced that its recently acquired Internet subsidiary, Worldwide Houseofboxing.com, Inc.("HOB") has signed prominent boxing writer Michael Katz, previously the long-time sportswriter for the New York Daily News, to a five-year employment agreement. Mr. Katz will be writing boxing content exclusively for HOB with a minimum of three feature articles, news stories or columns per week to be used on the HOB web site located at www.houseofboxing.com.

Marc Roberts notes Mr. Katz has had a long distinguished career as a sports writer and is considered by many to be the premier boxing writer today, as a voice the fans trust and depend upon for breaking boxing news stories. He was a New York Times sports copy editor and writer from 1972 to 1985 covering all major sporting events and writing a twice-a-week auto-racing column. From 1976 to 1980 he was the Times' Football Giants beat writer. In 1980, he became the first full-time boxing writer for a major daily in decades. In September of 1985, he moved to the New York Daily News, where he's been a fixture as a sports columnist, mainly covering boxing.

During his career, Mr. Katz has won numerous awards including the Nat Fleischer Award for "excellence in boxing journalism", the sports equivalent of a Pulitzer. It was given for lifetime work and selected by a panel of previous winners including Red Smith, Dave Anderson, Barney Nagler and Bob Waters. He is also the recipient of two Associated Press Sports Editor Awards and two New York Times Publisher's Awards.
