Children’s Performer, DARIA, releases CD Single to support President Obama

July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Multi-cultural children’s performer, Daria (Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou) just announced the release of a new musical CD single for kids to support President, Barack Obama.  Echoing his powerful campaign slogan – YES WE CAN – the song has the melody of the spiritual “We Shall Not Be Moved” and includes lyrics that talk about how – together with our inspiring leader- we can build a better nation and create a brighter future for all Americans.  

Why A Children’s Song for Obama?  Says Daria:”  I have young children that were really enthusiastic about this campaign and volunteered at our local campaign headquarters.  Frankly, they have been confused and bothered by a lot of the negative and nasty politicking that has occurred since the election so I wanted to record a song to just bring us back to the basics.  The song tells people to stay involved, keep a positive attitude and stand behind our president.”   Along with offering the YES WE CAN song, Daria has started to create “sing-along” versions of each new release that are available free to anyone who wants a copy.  Says Daria: “ That way anyone can add their own voice and participate in the music along with me.”

Hailed for her multi-cultural approach to children’ s entertainment, Daria’s music often includes topics such as peace and social justice such as her “Salaam, Shalom” song written for her work in an Arabic Village in the Middle East in 2006.  Critics call her music: neither “sugared-up” nor dummied down and her www.dariamusic.com website was given a 2009 Parents Choice award as a family-friendly place on the web for kids to explore music and world cultures.  

During July 2007, Daria was a featured performer at the 3rd International Women’s Peace Conference in Dallas, Texas and has performed widely in the United States as well as in 16 countries around the world.  Daria holds a degree in ethnomusicology and is active in Native American, fair trade and children’s issues.
