Church Architect Chooses Performance, Aesthetics of Hollaender Interna-Rail® Handrail Systems

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- CINCINNATI, OH – Hollaender Manufacturing is proud to announce the recent selection of their Interna-Rail glass infill railing system by architects engaged in renovating the Washington Heights Church in Dayton, OH. Interna-Rail is an in-line, fitting based handrail system that combines the clean look of welded rail with the benefits of a mechanical system.

Architectural plans originally called for a railing system combining stainless steel and glass, a very high cost solution. Instead, designers chose the Interna-Rail mechanical aluminum railing system with frosted, tempered-glass infill panels since it achieved virtually the same effect as the stainless steel system, for about half the cost. With Interna-Rail, mounting clips hold glass panels in place from top and bottom as opposed to side-to-side, providing greater support and eliminating the costs associated with drilling mounting holes in pre-tempered glass.

The solution had to conform to a range of mounting conditions. Stair railing had to be secured by internally welding spuds to a steel stringer, while mezzanine railing was top mounted with internal flanges and cover plates. Hollaender custom modified their existing flange designs to handle these conditions and meet all necessary codes. The project was completed in late 2009.
