Aug. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- I love my iPhone 4. While I was at first a little bit protective of it—I didn't want to drop it or break it and consequently tried to minimize its use—my addiction quickly got the best of me and before I knew it, I was carrying my iPhone 4 everywhere. My addiction to checking my email, texting my friends, using Facebook, and pretty much doing everything on the iPhone 4 was winning—and it was putting my iPhone 4 at risk. One day, I nearly dropped my phone (as in, I just barely grabbed it inches before it went bouncing onto the sidewalk)—leading me to start searching for an iPhone 4 case.

One of the first websites I looked at was a website called http://www.iphone4cases.org. I was familiar with them from their line of waterproof and watertight iPod cases. I had been using a waterproof Otterbox case for my iPod to run in the rain and bring on canoe trips—and while I haven't tested it (thankfully)—the cases were submergible down to three feet. Beyond the waterproof cases, the Otterbox cases were quite durable, so I decided to see what they offered for iPhone 4 cases.

As I expected, the website offers a line of iPhone 4 cases, one of which immediately caught my eye. The Otterbox 2600 Series PDA Case offers completely waterproof, crushproof, and airtight protection for your iPhone 4. The case is clearly made for the clumsy—such as me and my uncanny ability to almost drop my iPhone 4—or the adventurous, who will be bringing their iPhone 4 into hostile environments. With the Otterbox iPhone 4 case, you can easily throw your phone in your backpack without worrying about it getting crushed, you can take it on camping trips, and you can take it out on your boat. If you are worried about breaking your iPhone 4, this is the case for you.

Of course, with a case that offers such substantial protection, you can expect a little extra bulk. The case is heavier than many other iPhone 4 cases on the market—this certainly isn't one of the popular and sleek cases that you see around. Aside from the weight, there are additional drawbacks. For one, Otterbox recommends that to use the phone functionality with this case that you purchase a Bluetooth headset. Additionally, the case does not provide access to the headphone jack or synchronization port.

Despite these drawbacks—which might be significant for some users—the Otterbox 2600 Series PDA Case is likely to be worth it for others. If durability and protection is your goal, it's hard to think of a more suitable iPhone 4 case. Similarly, while the phone functionality is restricted, you can use the iPhone 4's touch screen while it is in the case. In addition, the case comes with some other special features including an external stylus holder and a Velcro hand strap—which the website says works great with gloves.

The 2600 Series PDA Case sells for around $49 and is available in two colors: black/gray and yellow/black. You can purchase online via their website. If you are serious about protecting your iPhone 4, you'd do well to check out this Otterbox case.
