FREE Dental Screenings for Students during September

Aug. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- August 16, 2010 – Preparing for the first day of school in North Carolina requires parents to complete a lot of forms, including health assessments and immunization records. The required health assessment must include a medical history and a physical examination with screening for vision and hearing; but, there is no requirement for a dental exam…YET.  

Several states now mandate children to have dental exams for initial enrollment and at other scheduled intervals such as third, sixth and ninth grades. Support is growing for policies that demand dental exams due to the prevalence of pediatric dental disease.

Hardy Family Dentistry is offering FREE student dental screenings through September 2010 for any new patient. Current patients who schedule a back-to-school appointment will receive a free fluoride treatment during September. The practice accepts most major insurance plans and is a network provider for: Delta Dental, NC HealthChoice and Medicaid.

Tooth decay is the most prevalent chronic condition among children in the United States. More than one-quarter of preschoolers and half of school-aged children have cavities. This number climbs to over 80% for everyone age 17 and older. The U.S. surgeon general has declared oral disease a “silent epidemic” afflicting millions of minority and low-income Americans.
