Spirit Falls, by Robert Townsend, is a coming-of-age novel set in the hardscrabble borderland between Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin. On the longest night on the year 1959, during the one-room school Christmas program, the author begins a tale of childhood friendship on a harsh and austere land growing into profound love.

Spirit Falls is the prologue to the trilogy the author is writing about deception within families and between nations, war and peace in 20th century America, the men who fought those wars, the lies we accept and the ones we don’t.
