Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Scattered throughout the countryside of El Poniente Granadino are the ruins of abandoned farmhouses. Originally, whole families would have lived in these but the lure of the towns and villages, with their now sophisticated infrastructure and modern facilities, has been too much for many. Although the land belonging to these ruins has not been abandoned, because the owners visit to attend to their olives and may also grow vegetables and keep chickens, gradually they are being sold off as the younger generation is often not interested in working the land.
This wonderfully situated cottage is on the brow of a hill above the Rio Milanos. It is a 5 minute drive up a track from the Huétor Tájar- Montefrio road just north of La Fabrica so it is about a 15 minute drive to Huétor Tajar and 20 minutes to Loja in whose municipality it belongs.
The ruined cottage is registered on the title deeds as well over 100 sq. metres and the land extends to about 15,000 sq. metres. There are olive, almond and fig trees and evidence that the land was once split into small fields, no doubt for the growing of vegetables, as it is divided by stone walls.
The main attractions of this property are the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys and also the privacy and tranquility of the location. There are no services so an eco solution must be found for electricity. The sunny, south facing location is ideal for solar power and this could be combined with a small wind turbine. There is strong evidence of abundant underground water close to the house so there should be no problem obtaing a plentiful supply by drilling a bore hole, which is not expensive.
There are no neighbours living close by and no other ruins that could be developed, but the adjacent farmland is cultivated with olives so there are the occasional visits from the owners to attend to their trees and more activity in January and February when the olives are harvested.
The owner has only just decided to sell the property and is asking for a price of 60,000 euros.

After many years working in the tourist industry in Cornwall and Spain as a product/marketing consultant, brochure writer/designer and photographer I moved to Spain permanently in 2001. I have worked in the property market since then but have also maintained my interest in photography. I now live with my wife Margaret, who is an artist, on a farm near Loja, Granada.
