Aug. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- The jewelry of Washington, D.C.-based designer Nora Fischer is now at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Having created interiors and furniture for such clients as US Airways, Kodak, and the Watergate Office Building, Nora has turned her talents to fine jewelry design. Stores such as Fred Segal in Los Angeles have already made large purchases from Nora’s collection. “I’m excited about the growth in my business and the fact that Fred Segal sold its entire inventory of my designs within a six-month period,” she says.

Nora fashions her pieces out of sterling silver, semi-precious stones, and freshwater pearls, focusing on the positive and negative spaces created by the geometry of the designs. This use of negative space gives her work a contemporary, even postmodern, feel. She says of her collection, “The pieces are architectural—I call them ‘small constructions’—because they’re meant to frame and enhance the beauty of the woman who wears them.”

“I’m truly honored that the shop has chosen to sell my designs,” Nora says, noticing that “just as the museum collection commemorates women’s vast contributions to the world of art, the shop gives visitors a chance to preserve their memories by collecting books, home accessories, and jewelry also created by women.”

In fact, after taking in the museum’s rare and significant collection of pieces by female silversmiths of 18th- and 19th-century Ireland and England, visitors can buy new jewelry by a contemporary artist working in silver—Nora Fischer.

Refreshing, innovative, embedded in design, her creations, she says, are “not your grandmother’s pearls.”
