Follow on Google News | Mary & Peter Max Receive the First World Animal Awareness Society Celine Cousteau Visionary AwardOn August 19, 2010 at the ALL EYES ON THE GULF Fundraiser hosted at the Peter Max Gallery in New York, Tom McPhee with special guest Celine Cousteau presented the first Celine Cousteau Visionary Award to Mary and Peter Max.
During this event, Tom McPhee, Executive Director of the World Animal Awareness Society, presented Mary and Peter Max with the first Celine Cousteau Visionary Award. Over the last few years the Max’s have supported more than 10 different animal organizations. Mary and Peter spread awareness, and are active in raising money for their causes. Just this year, including our event, Mary and Peter Max hosted 3 organizations at the gallery: Animals and Society Institute, Last Chance for Animals, and World Animal Awareness Society. Both Peter and Mary are involved are involved in animal issues and Mary is member of the Board of Directors for Humane Society of the United States. About the Celine Cousteau Visionary Award – The Celine Cousteau Visionary Award recognizes outstanding individuals, teams, or organizations that have exemplified inspiration, vision, leadership and action by opening a window for others to witness the human-animal intersection. This award was established in August 2010. The award is named for a visionary in her own right, Celine Cousteau. Anyone can nominate a Visionary. Not only does she defend the world’s oceans, but she has also become an advocate for global health issues. She has paraglided off California cliffs, led an expedition to the peaks of the Andes, and swam amid a school of sharks in the South Pacific. As an Oceanaut, Celine has traveled the seas producing documentaries for the Discovery Channel and the Ocean Futures Society. Celine’s non-profit organization CauseCentric Productions supports existing organizations with projects that work in synergy with her explorations.
