Sept. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Mike Kristiansen answers several questions about how the Net More Now works with its clients.
Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
The things we hear from clients who've had blogs customized by others is that our keyword research and integration of social media feeds into the website owner's web properties, made all the difference in increasing interest, traffic and ultimately sales for their business.

What do you like most about your job?
It's always a great feeling to have done the optimization and keyword research and see the keyword phrases that were carefully chosen, move up in the search engines, especially when the important keywords break into the top five on any of the major search engines.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
The most common question, are they going to be able to learn how to use the marketing tools themselves? I let them know we stay with them till they're comfortable marketing their online business, and if they don't always have the time, we're here to pickup and perform monthly activities as needed.

If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
What I wish every customer to know is that it does not cost thousands to design and setup a website and spend thousands more trying to market it, this happens a lot more than it should. The most important key before starting an online business beyond coming up with a good idea and having passion for it is, doing the keyword research and taking great care on choosing a domain name that resonates with what the business is about and also receives natural traffic when people do a search. In other words the domain should be a keyword phrase that gets traffic!

Do you have a favorite story from your work?
There's a client of mine who had named their site with a domain that also has some negative connotations to it. The site was built on a platform template that was not conducive to optimizing pages beyond the home page. The solution was to build two sites, one a web-log and the other a blog with both domains together having 25K searches a month. It did not take a week before the web-log was ranking higher for the client's domain name when it was typed in for a search. Several keyword phrases have ranked well for the web-log and it's starting to do a good job of pushing up the ranking on the site with a difficult name.

What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
It's far better to choose a firm where the 'sales people' are really the same people who do the web development, content and SEO. It's like shopping at Costco, cutting out the fat commissions.

How is the business organized to handle client's projects when no two are the same?
We have two divisions that split up the keyword research and search engine optimization in one division, handled through http://www.netmorenow.com.  Once the research is completed, the foundation can be set for a customized business blog and producing the initial optimized content.  Carefully naming social media network accounts  figures into the optimization and integration with the business blog and the website that's going to get the focused marketing support.  The second division is performed by the sister company http://www.blogdesign.co,  who handles the web development and design phase, and customizes the business fanpages on Facebook and Twitter.  If ecommerce is going to be part of the Facebook marketing strategy, Blog Design Company builds and integrates a micro site within the Facebook fan pages.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Marketing takes time, even with a powerful website marketing strategy. There are marketing activities that need to be performed on a regular basis, so be willing to learn to do on your own, or be willing to pay for having the activities performed for them. Don't start a business because you think it will make money, choose a business you have a passion for and learn the many ways to monetize your passion with an online business.
How did you decide to get in your line of work?

It started for me with my first PC in 1997 and went from designing to marketing over the years, as the two go hand in hand.

What are your most common types of jobs?
Every job is a pleasure and a challenge, with most work performed for retail online businesses. However we've done different sites like promoting an online elementary school.

Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
We are very happy with a job where we decided in the beginning to do two business blogs, even though the client had a business blog to start with. It took time optimizing the e-commerce site to match up with the keyword research we had done. One blog focuses on the jewelry part of the business and the other blog focuses on the discount supplies the business offered. In a few months, it was apparent that the original business blog did not build strong inbound links and lagged way behind the two blogs we built that got many keyword phrases ranking for the blogs and for the main website. Finally, traffic increased and sales have increased, showing the two blog strategy was the right strategy (among the rest of the ingredients we mixed in).

Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
Yes, it is constant continuing education. Website marketing strategies have to be kept up with search engines that are in flux and social media networks and social search that are constantly evolving. It's 2-3 hours a day of reading and putting into play strategies and software.

What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
Social Search is the future, it's already starting to happen when a person searches for products, and a pop-up or sidebar alerts you what your friends have had to say and their experience with the product. Mobile apps are growing faster than ever. There are people now who've earned the Mayor title or Ambassador of their favorite place such as Starbucks. It's only getting better for people, and businesses are getting rewarded for delivering great content that has real intrinsic value.

Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
The most recent is a five tab Facebook fanpage customization job that took about twelve hours. It included setting up a Facebook account and then setting up the business fanpages, installing the fbml and developing the graphics, focus, content.  Many businesses will do the design then charge a lot extra to install and publish. Our $499 priced program covers all the set-up, design and publishing for the standalone Facebook project.

If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
Either concentrate on writing content and learning search engine optimization, or go into web design. We find it helps to specialize to best express your best talents.
Write your own question and answer it.

Why is building a website and optimizing the site not enough? These are basic requirements just to be on an even playing field. It takes passion for your business along with an integrated marketing strategy to succeed.

What important information should buyers have before seeking you out?  For example, someone looking to have their room painted should know how big the room is, whether or not the ceiling requires painting, if there is trimming or crown moldings, etc.

The important info is having in one place your login and password to access your own sites, website, Facebook account, Twitter account, business blog, and any other social networks that can be included in the overall marketing campaigns.
