By: Roland UK A small-but-focussed group of people from the music industry is embarking on a week-long cycle ride from Land’s End to London, raising money for the Music for All and British Heart Foundation charities. Starting at Land’s End on October 1st, the team will cycle to the capital over eight days before arriving at a London school where the Music for All proceeds will be presented to the pupils, enabling them to buy new musical equipment. Industry support for the ride is strong, with 80’s synth legend Howard Jones set to take part and perform at one of the fundraising gigs held during the week. Although the idea came from Roland UK - the UK arm of the global musical instruments brand - the rest of the music industry is also on board, with support from industry heavyweights including Yamaha, Peavey and Sound Technology. The event is also being supported by the magazine publishing sector including Future Publishing and Anthem Publishing. Three special fundraising events are planned during the week-long ride. The events will feature several exclusive artist performances, as well as product demonstrations showcasing the latest musical instruments from Roland, Peavey and Sound Technology. There will also be big discounts on musical instruments sold during the event. Myself and a couple of colleagues were in the pub talking about doing something for charity, but we also wanted to do something that would get us fit too. A couple of beers later, we’d all agreed to cycle the 400 miles from Land’s End to London! Training is really tough, and we’re averaging well over 100miles a week, not to mention a growing number of aches and pains. It’s worth it though to be raising money for Music for All and The British Heart Foundation”. Local BHF Fundraising and Volunteer Manager Jayne Lewis said: “We’re delighted that Tim, Simon and Peter are undertaking this great personal challenge and supporting the BHF – I’m sure that they will have a wonderful welcome upon their arrival in London. Heart and circulatory disease remains the number one killer of people in the UK. In England, nine people will die prematurely from heart and circulatory disease. That’s why the work of the BHF is vital and we rely on these generous donations of time and money to continue our life-saving work” she added. Roland UK has a fundraising target of £20,000 and you can pledge sponsorship at www.threemenonabike.org where you can also view the riders’ progress, read their blogs, laugh at their pain and keep up to date with the fundraising total. - - - - Roland is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of electronic musical instruments, professional audio equipment, multimedia products, and music accessories. - - - - For media use only # # # Roland is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of electronic musical instruments, professional audio equipment, multimedia products, and music accessories.
