New Beetle Final Edition coupes will sport a black roof, foglamps flaired into the front bumper, and individually-numbered exterior badging. The sporty looks are paired with a  standard sport suspension and distinctive 17-inch wheels. While the special coupe's looks, equipment and quality display the car's premium nature, the $20,390 MSRP is a bargain.

These specially trimmed examples of one of the most iconic cars of the last decade will be limited production with only 1,500 units of each. Red Rock Edition production will be even more limited at 750 examples. For the Final Editions, badging on the exterior will identify the cars as something special, and Aquarius Blue is the only paint color.

Convertibles have Campanella White accents across the body sides and a white soft top in place of the coupe's blacked-out roof. The looks are still natty and timeless; Retro simmers out of the New Beetle, and the Final Edition paint scheme on the convertible cranks the burner up to high. The paint scheme is another clear link back to the original Beetle, augmenting the styling's inherent homage.

Red Rock coupes also have a blacked-out roof panel for a slick, sporty look. The Red Rock Package nomenclature is derived from the eye-catching metallic Red Rock paint. Seventeen-inch wheels keep the sporting theme moving, and the chassis tuning is quick on its feet, so you won't be let down when the road starts winding.

Volkswagen's 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine mates with a six-speed automatic transmission. A Tiptronic gate on the shifter allows manual shift control to please driving enthusiasts, and the 150 hp and 170 lb/ft of torque are willing partners. EPA estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway means a tank of fuel won't run dry before you're ready to quit.

Like the coupe, the convertible rides on a Euro-tuned suspension that delivers steady control. Electronic stability control is standard to keep you from banging up that chic bodywork, and the New Beetle's front-wheel drive underpinnings provide year-round road holding acumen.

None of the charm of the New Beetle has diminished since its 1998 introduction.
