Follow on Google News | A Larger than Expected Class for Cheyney UniversityOfficials at Cheyney University have announced that the University experienced a 46.6 percent enrollment increase in first-year students over last year (2009) bringing the headcount to approximately 1,586 students for the Fall 2010 Semester.
By: Office of Public Relations The University’s president, Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital expressed extreme pleasure with the University’s reported enrollment numbers, and further states, “This demonstrates that families recognize the value we offer for an undergraduate education that will prepare young adults to be competitive and responsible citizens in a global economy.” Dr. Suzanne Phillips, the University’s Vice President for Student Affairs and Student Life, attributes the significant increase in first-year students to enhanced marketing and recruitment efforts. For the past two consecutive years, the University has hosted over 1,000 participants for each of its Fall and Spring Open Houses. “Through a team effort, we have been successful this year in bringing a balanced class of students. These students have not only been recruited from diverse geographical areas, but their academics and social skills are much more balanced,” says Dr. Phillips. Cheyney University officials project a growth in enrollment to approximately 2,000 students by 2012 under the direction of its recently affirmed strategic plan, Pathways to Excellence.
