Romney Libyan Domain Name Blunder Fix Even Worse - Now? Human Rights Violations

"It's almost tempting to be glad about this, " said Purkins, "but this is a serious blow to freedom of speech and it is NOT a happy day for ANY URL shortener. I'm a businessman, and I respect my competitors, especially bit.LY. I make fun of them and our leading politicians in the United States and also prominent news organizations who tout America or US in their names, taking their flag wrapped body armor to the bank and then using a Libyan URL Shortener instead of my dot US one. But that's friendly competition, and I have no animosity to any of my 1,099 or so competitors."

1,099? Purkins has compiled a list of nearly 1100 URL Shorteners. The next biggest list he says you can find on the web today is just over 300.

"It's ludicrous. I'm the only one it seems who even tried."

On using dot LY domain names, though, Purkins says:
