Magical Hawaiian Menehune Babies, Collectible Dolls with a Soul

Oct. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Sabine Hendreschke and Dane Galiza are the creators and artists of Magical Hawaiian Menehune Babies. They are a couple and live together in the Menehune’s habitat in the beautiful, secluded mountains of Kau on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Dane was born and raised in Kau. His passion is creating art with landscaping. Dane’s inspiration are the mountains and the ocean in the Kau district. Nature has always dictated how he sees things, especially in his art work. The Kaiholena Moutains, which are the Menehune Babies’ point of origin, are the center of the District of Kau located right above Punaluu Black Sands Beach where Dane collects the coconuts. He is the creator of the babies’ coconut cradles and bamboo bases. Dane spends many hours hand carving, sanding, polishing, detailing, and fitting each coconut to a custom bamboo base.
Sabine was born and raised in Germany and has lived in Kau on the Big Island of Hawaii for the past 28 years. She works in the local school as an educational assistant.
Sabine creates and sews the Menehunes, their clothes and bedding. She decorates the coconut cradles, chairs, and canoes matching each babies’ unique personality.
Sabine also writes each babies inspirational story using many Hawaiian words as well as following concepts of Hawaiian spirituality and culture. She commits a lot of creativity, detailing, inspiration, and love to each individual doll. Sometimes it takes a long time to finish a Menehune and his or her cradle because she doesn’t stop working on the baby until it has a spirit and a soul. Sabine puts a great deal of her Mana (spiritual energy) into each individual Menehune until it becomes a part of her and she falls in love with him or her. As a result she gets very attached to each doll and it is always difficult for her to let go of him or her. She says:” I put so much time and energy into each doll. It makes the Menehunes priceless. My main objective with Magical Hawaiian Menehunes is to bring joy and inspiration to people .” As a little girl Sabine had about 30 dolls who all had a name and a soul. Her childhood was filled with fairy tales and magic. Once her parents made her a coconut cradle and put a baby doll inside. This became one of her most cherished toys.
45 years later she decided to replicate her parent’s coconut cradle idea with a Hawaiian theme.
Thus began the creation of Magical Hawaiian Menenhune Babies .

Hawaiian Collectible Menehune Dolls were individually handcrafted on the Big Island of Hawaii with the greatest attention to detail creativity, inspiration, and love. All dolls, coconut cradles, and canoes are authentic and originally designed, following concepts of Hawaiian tradition and spirituality. All of the Menehune Babies' coconut cradles, chairs, and canoes were handcrafted in the Menehune’s habitat in the beautiful, secluded mountains of Ka’u on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The coconuts were selected from palm trees at Punalu`u Black Sands Beach. They are hand carved, sanded, polished, and fit to a custom bamboo base. Every cradle has unique bedding and decorations matching the spirit of the baby. Other Menehune Babies have their own wooden Wa’akaukahi (Outrigger Canoe) to go paddling and fishing in.
All Menehunes have their own name and birth date. There are Keiki Kanes (boys) and Kaikamahines (girls), usually brother and sister. Some of them are Kamali’i Kanes (Princes) and Kamali’i Wahines (Princesses). They are approximately 3.5” tall fitting in the palm of your hand.
