Kids Wish Network and Local Sponsors Grant Only Wish to Sacramento Girl with Cancer

Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - If you didn’t know better, you’d guess that nothing was wrong with a little girl who spends most of her time outdoors playing in the garden, dancing or swimming. However, just last year, six-year-old Virginia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is a cancer of the white blood cells. When Virginia began her chemotherapy treatments, she experienced an allergic reaction which made the treatment even more intense for the little girl; instead of having to endure treatments only once a week, Virginia had to have them three times a week. She has also had a port surgically inserted in her chest to receive her chemotherapy treatments and she is on a strict daily medication regimen.

Virginia’s mother Estella learned about national children’s charity Kids Wish Network and their mission to grant wishes to children like her daughter through a neighbor who regularly donates to the charity. When asked to wish for anything, Virginia asked if she could spend some time at the indoor waterpark, KeyLime Cove in Chicago. With assistance from some outstanding sponsors, Virginia’s wish just came true.

“It was all exciting and very, very fun,” said Estella of her daughter’s wish trip.

In addition to three days of splashing around at KeyLime Cove, Virginia and her family also enjoyed a day at the Six Flags amusement park and even made a fun trip into downtown Chicago to check out the Lincoln Park Zoo! Also included were accommodations and dinners every evening.

According to Estella, her family was given the VIP treatment everywhere they went and everything was perfect. For Virginia, her favorite activities were swimming, sliding down the waterslides at KeyLime Cove and taking a special kitchen tour during a meal at Chili’s Bar & Grill one evening.

“The accommodations were good, the dinners were excellent and everyone was super friendly…it was all really nice,” said Estella.
