NatureWalk starts reforrestation project in Costa Rica

Oct. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- NatureWalk is a remarkable development close to Turrubares Costa Rica.

A teak plantation of almost 100 ha has been divded into serviced development lots. Investors own not only the beautifully situated lots but also the valuable teak growing on them.

The developers of NatureWalk, PRG Group are committed to maintaining the ecological integrity of the development.

The teak is 13 years of age and will be ready to harvest in 7 years. Each lot has an ecological easement or covenant attached to it requiring that at least 50% of the surface area of the lot be replanted with trees after harvest of the teak.

However, PRG are further committed to replacing not just 50% of the trees harvested and have committed to planting 500 trees for each and every lot sold ni NatureWalk. The result is a huge gain in tree numbers for every lot sold.

The trees will be planted both on and off site in NatureWalk.

A tree nursery is in place with more than 1,000 seedlings growing.

Diego Comancho, is the forestry consultant to NatureWalk and John Bryant is the director of the NatureWalk cnoservancy project.

Tim Alexander, PRG Group, said " we are delighted that the planting of the additional trees has started in NatureWalk. The ecological integrity of NatureWalk is hugely important to PRG. The sale of the launch offer lots will result in the planting of more than 31,000 trees."

He added "as the teak in NatureWalk is harvested and used in the construction of treak homes on site, there is a huge net gain in tree numbers as a result of the combination of the on and off site planting and the ecological easement attached to each lot. Further the use of the teak from NatureWalk in teak home construction in NatureWalk ensures  that the carbon removed from the atmosphere is locked into the houses for many years to come. This is an ideal sustainable development loop"
