Lectio Divina - a new life. A new CD of Christian Meditation and Contemplative Prayer

Oct. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Christians have practiced the art of sacred reading for millennia and it is happily returning to the consciousness of the Church in modern times. It is a deep well worthy of study consisting of four stages: Reading-lectio, reflecting-meditatio, expressing-oratio and resting-contempltio.

Reading - this is the 'lectio' of 'lectio divina'. Find a passage of scripture that speaks to you, perhaps it is an area of weakness, or something that God has laid upon your heart. Simply read the passage through and set the table.

Reflecting - meditatio. Meditate on each small part of the scripture. Read it 3 times, or more if you feel lead to. Let each small part settle over your spirit, sift down past your intellect and into your soul. Let the Holy Spirit of God move into your being and make these word's of God yours.

Expressing - oratio. As in any conversation, we listen and we speak. This is your time to speak. Remember, you are speaking to the Creator of the Universe and all it contains. He knows you better than you know yourself and you are not going to tell Him anything He doesn't already know or is unable to handle. This a time to break down walls, to open the compartments of our lives to each other -  to be whole and not a divided person before Him.

Resting - contempltio. This is a natural time of resting in His presence. This may be the time when a believer feels the safety of His presence best. This could be compared to the time when a young child is resting with their parent in contentment. It’s a time when words are unnecessary, because satisfaction with one another is understood.
