Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Briar Rose, a world premiere by Kelli Tager, is a play that takes a dark, psychological spin on the Sleeping Beauty tale. It’s a tale of self-redemption performed in the vein of Pan’s Labyrinth.

Sleeping Beauty was once an innocent princess who fell under a spell… until she is woken up, not by Prince Charming’s kiss, but by her father’s rape. Mentally destroyed by the incident, she declares herself ‘The Witch,’ and locks herself safely inside her tower with only her demonic memories as company until one day… the Prince finally shows up.

This is not your classic ‘fairy tale’ Prince however, he is bumbling and scattered and doesn’t look like he could defeat a spider, never mind a dragon. However, through the course of the play, the Prince realizes that he is not too late in saving his Princess the first time round, but it was his destiny to save her now. He must find the strength in himself to win her over now, so together they begin the great battle fighting the Princess’ demons together.

Briar Rose show us what happens inside of us whenever we are faced with an unavoidable tragedy. The shame involved, the guilt involved, the innocence we had before it happened. But most importantly, Briar Rose shows us the healing power through the everlasting, cathartic fairytale journey.
