By: Bestcovery.com Smartphones are seemingly everywhere in today’s society. From the executive suite to the middle school playground, it seems you can’t walk 20 feet without seeing someone chatting, texting, surfing the web, or playing games on their PDAs. Smartphone applications — “Apps” — are now big business, and Fortune 500 companies like Apple, Google, and AT&T are key players in an ever-intensifying arms race to create the fastest, sleekest, most brilliant smartphone known to man. According to Bestcovery’s cell phone expert, Sprint is currently in pole position in the aforementioned arms race. The Rundown on the Winner The HTC Evo 4G was chosen as the best cell phone on the market, thanks to its combination of incredible features, top-notch reliability, versatility, and an extremely quick 4G network. It was the first 4G phone that was released in the US, and its 4G network guarantees faster data speeds, quick downloads, and impressively sharp, clear sound quality. It sports a supersized 4.3-inch touch screen that offers excellent image quality, and its three built-in cameras — including a webcam in the front — can shoot high-definition video and razor sharp still photographs. It features a 1Ghz processor and runs on the popular, powerful Android platform that gives you access to thousands of easily downloadable apps. Though it doesn’t come with a physical QWERTY keyboard, its huge screen comes in handy for emailing and texting, as it has the space to display large on-screen keys. Loading your personal files (music, pictures, etc.) on to it is simple and intuitive, and you’ll have no trouble customizing this highly programmable smart phone. Its litany of features and capabilities along with its lightning-quick 4G network and user-friendliness, the HTC Evo was able to beat off some very impressive competition to achieve top honors. The Best of the Rest While many would expect Apple’s ubiquitous iPhone 4 to take first prize, it will have to settle for 2nd this time around. That said, the iPhone 4 is still a world-class smartphone with a confluence of top-quality features and capabilities and an excellent network. Apple is known for improving on their franchise phone with each new model, and the iPhone 4 is no exception. Besides an even sleeker design, the new iPhone features an upgraded rear camera and introduces video chat. Apple’s fabled App store now features more than 1 million downloadable apps. While it may have fallen just short of top spot, it is still one of the best smartphones on the market. Motorla’s impressive Droid X finished third, thanks to its large, 4.3-inch touchscreen, 1Ghz processor, and HD video capability. Though it doesn’t feature the 4G network of the Evo, it is expected to gain 4G coverage by the end of the 2010. It has many of the same features as the Evo, and it is backed by the biggest carrier in the country (Verizon). Though it placed third, it is still an excellent smartphone.
