Today, on the first day of the event, REVE Systems’ Director Global Marketing, Mr. Sanjit Chatterjee presented an interactive session on mVoIP (Mobile VoIP) and emerging technologies in the field of VoIP. The topic of this speaker session was ‘Everyone is going wireless- VoIP is no Exception’.  During this session on mVoIP, Mr. Chatterjee discussed the difficulties before mVoIP era, and also, how mVoIP has eased up the life of people. Addressing the attendees, Mr. Chatterjee told that after VoIP, being technology of generation next, its mVoIP ‘s turn to create the history.  

Addressing the discussion the official told that from fixed to wireless had been a long journey of transformation and it has profiled the people into two segments- mVoIP users and regular phone users. According to Gartner, till 2013, there will be seen a significant growth in the number of mobile data users. It is predicted to reach about 300 million mobile VoIP users around the world. Another research agency Juniper has predicted hugesome growth in mobile VoIP minute usage, till 2015 it is predicted to reach above 470 billion.

“To make a VoIP call from a mobile handset, one needs to have 3 things, a compatible mobile handset, a GPRS, 3G, Wi-Fi or EDGE for data connectivity and a Mobile VoIP application” added Mr. Chatterjee. With fast growing 3G services now it is to be connected from the mobile handsets at any time. A firm called isuppli claims the increment in global smart phones shipment. It is predicted to rise up to 400 million by 2013.

Stating the consumers’ advantages from mVoIP, Mr. Sanjit Chatterjee said “Mobile VoIP enables users to make cheap national and international calls from their mobile phones. Not only the smartphones but now it is possible for consumers to make VoIP calls using their low end Symbian handsets. The best advantage of mVoIP is that it involves the lowest expenditure and great value for money”.

Due to introduction of new technologies and growing number of users, mVoIP is getting popular day after day. Though, the technology is facing challenges due to multiple numbers of operating systems, huge range of handsets, regulations put by regulatory authorities and network challenges. Other challenges involve the handset compatibility, user interface and huge size of mobile applications.
