Oct. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Aker will be constructing a Gravity Base Structure (GBS) for Exxon Mobil in the Sakhalin I field off the east cost of Russia. The Sakhalin-I  project, like its sister project Sakhalin-II, is a consortium to locate and produce oil and gas on Sakhalin Island and immediately offshore, in the Okhotsk Sea, from three fields: Chayvo, Odoptu, and Arkutun-Dagi . The fields are projected to yield 2.3 billion barrels (370×106 m3) of oil and 17.1 trillion cubic feet (484 billion cubic meter) of gas .The GBS will be positioned at sea and will be in place for a period of one year before the topside (platform) structure is ready to be installed.
During this time the HGI power package will provide constant uninterrupted power to navigational aids and warning systems on the GBS to prevent shipping accidents involving the unmanned structure which will ultimately form the “legs” of the finished platform.
HGI previously supplied two similar packages back in 2005 again with Aker ultimately for SEIC (Sakhalin Energy Investment Corporation), an alliance of Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi. One of these systems was overhauled at sea by HGI to provide a second year of operation when delivery of the topside suffered delays.
Engineers at Aker Solutions chose HGI to provide the same solution which had previously proved so reliable through 2005-6.
