She will uncover the myths about teen homelessness in Detroit.
By: Versandra Kennebrew Intl. Ms. Kennebrew wrote her memoir in an effort to share with people around the world how she made it from homelessness to self-sufficiency and then to thrive as a speaker, educator and advocate. Her affiliation with national homeless advocacy groups has opened the doors for her memoir to be used as a self-help tool in shelters, transitional homes and churches from Michigan to Hawaii. In her presentation she will address the issue of teen homelessness in Detroit. Additionally she will uncover the myths about this epidemic and share how she and other homeless advocates are working to prevent and eradicate homelessness among teen girls. Kennebrew is the founder of Hunter House, a supportive independent living home for teen girls who have aged out of foster care. She is also an elected Community Service Commissioner for the Detroit Department of Human Services.
