Los Angeles – Five-time The Moth Story Slam winner and veteran Hollywood voice-over talent Bill Ratner will perform a new original story, “Fine Arts on Seventh”, at a Los Angeles Conservancy/WordSpace event Sunday, November 7, 2010, at the Old Bailey Hat Building, 716 S. Los Angeles St. #408, Los Angeles, from 4 to 7 pm. Ratner joins a group of other artists who will present stories, poetry, and music, that connect the present and past on 7th street in downtown Los Angeles. Performers include Mike Sonksen, Amy Shimshon Santos, Judeth Oden Choi, Chi Wan Choi, Brenda Varda (also producer), Richard Tuttobene, Andrea Kittelson (host), and Harold Abramowitz.

Ratner’s story, about downtown LA’s 7th street, is centered on a morning he spent in the Fine Arts Building in 1980 in the company of a Hollywood “throwback.”

The WordSpace event follows the LA Conservancy’s one-time only open house “Strolling 7th Street” walking tour which will explore the street’s rich history and architectural treasures.  The tour is scheduled from 10 am to 4 pm Sunday November 7th, 2010.  The LA Conservancy, a non-profit education and advocacy organization established in 1978, works to “recognize, preserve, and revitalize the historic architectural and cultural resources of Los Angeles County.”

Ratner, aside from being a writer, a professional speaker, and five-time The Moth Story Slam winner, is also one of America’s most recognized and versatile voices. His soothing delivery, inimitable charm, and wry humor created a huge following of fans who remember his character Flint in GI Joe, Family Guy, and Robot Chicken.  Currently, he is the voice for the Dreamworks Megamind movie campaign, Hyundai commercials with Jeff Bridges, TV networks, and affiliate stations around the U.S. His short stories and essays are published in Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing, Cheng Kung Literary, Southern Anthology, Marquee, Nightblade, Papier Mache, Spork, The Amor Fati, and Coast Magazine.  Ratner is a long-standing member of Actors Equity, the American Federation of TV & Radio Artists where he serves as a National Board Member, and the Screen Actors Guild.   He is also a member of the National Storytelling Network.   He lives in Los Angeles, CA.   More about Bill Ratner can be found at billratner.com.

WordSpace, founded by actress-writer-musician Brenda Varda, is dedicated to author readings in a salon setting, writing classes, mullti-media performance - using all forms of expression from traditional to experimental to amuse, inspire, and mesmerize.  Up to 10 people read and/or perform staged scenes to an audience of family, friends, theater goers, and others.  Often, the events are taped and played on YouTube.com.

Writers on Seventh is co-hosted by actress-comedienne-writer Andrea Kittelson who writes a comedy column, among other activities, for the LA Examiner.  Other WordSpace activities include stream of consciousness writing classes with Alan Watt.  More information on the organization’s activities can be found at wordspace.net.
