Follow on Google News | Filmmaking students address sexuality and bullyingFollowing recent tragic events at Rutgers University where a student committed suicide following the alleged online streaming of his engagement in homosexual activities, three Towson University students have been inspired to help others.
By: Erin D. H. Syed The students – Nathan Turner, Christopher Walker, and Jeff Apple – pooled their talent and their resources to create “Better than Friends,” a movie that touches on various social issues faced by young people, including sexuality. The film embraces an almost “it gets better” attitude with its message that life goes on. Filmed at the Cloisters Museum and other locations in Baltimore, the scenery of the movie is as beautiful as its message. Fashion designer Carlous Palmer also adds to the aesthetics of the film with his careful choices of wardrobe for each character. The film is clever in its use of the color purple to remember the many people who have died senselessly as a result of sex-based privacy invasion or bullying. “Greater than Friends” is an effort to advance tolerance and understanding in hopes that other lives will be saved. The film will be screened for the public on Thursday, December 9, at 7 p.m. at Towson University. Additional screenings are being planned for the spring, and all of the student filmmakers are making themselves available for comment so that their words might carry the message of their film further. # # # Rockland Creative, LLC, was founded in 2007 to provide professional writing services for individuals and businesses of all sizes.
