Artist Grant Buckerfield Launches Pop Rocket With A Bang

Nov. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Venice based artist Grant Buckerfield teamed up with Santa Monica's coolest new cafe Flying Saucers to launch the Pop Rocket Art Show.

The Australian born artist has become one of Flying Saucer's many regular customers and takes his seat each day toward the back at the bar where he works on a variety of art and music projects.

"I used to rent a studio space off Abbot Kinney Blvd, but when I found Flying Saucers, I knew I had found my new office" says Grant over his latte.  "The staff and regulars are great and the rent I save buys me a whole lot lot of coffee"

Grant found his way to the UK and Europe working as a radio producer and TV composer.  As many of his TV shows began broadcasting in the US, he followed them over to expand his career into film composing.  What hit him most about LA was the rapidly expanding street art movement.  A class in the Santa Monica College silkscreen department was all it took to kick start Grant's now burgeoning art career, the results of which are currently hanging on the red brick walls of Flying Saucers Cafe.

POP ROCKET is a blast of vivid color.  Silkscreens, digital prints, photography, stencil and collage. Themes include Redheads Matchbox Labels, the Goddess series, Street signs and of course UFO's.  

The show launch was a Red Carpet event complete with Paparazzi, DJ Mark Farina, VJ Calder Greenwood with live graffiti painting by Gustavo Munoz.  The artwork is up for the month of November at Flying Saucers Caffeine and Art, 306 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica CA 90405.
