Golden Oldies Spectacular Comes To New Brunswick's State Theater

Nov. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Four tremendous acts will help the audience relive joyful memories at the State Theatre, 15 Livingston Avenue, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.   Jay and the Americans began with four teenagers singing in Sandy Yaguda’s Brooklyn basement.   From 1962-1971, the group charted twelve top 10 records.  The three original members, Sandy Yaguda, Howie Kirschenbaum and Marty Kupersmith, and Jay Reincke continue to recreate the authentic, unforgettable sound of their great hits, to the delight of their fans.  The hits include “She Cried,” “Only in America,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “This Magic Moment,” “Cara Mia,” and “Some Enchanted Evening.”  You’ll see why they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

New Jersey’s own The Duprees are known throughout the world for their unmistakable vocal harmonies and their romantic interpretations of the most beautiful love songs ever written.  Their sound brings back memories of Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.  Their version of Jo Stafford’s ballad “You Belong to Me” was their first million seller in 1962, followed by such hits as “Why Don’t You Believe Me,” “Have You Heard,” “I’m Yours” and “Exodus.”  Mark Baron, the musical director of their incredible band, wrote the musical for the Broadway musical “Frankenstein the Musical.”  As beautiful as the voices are, The Duprees are also know for their high energy, dynamic stage show.  They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006.

Another New Jersey group, The Happenings, exploded onto the national charts in 1966 with “See You in September” which became the #1 hit throughout the world that summer.  It is still regularly listed among the top 100 summer songs of all time.  Bob Miranda’s dynamic vocals and charisma are totally intact as The Happening captivate audiences with their show, which includes hit singles “Go Away Little Girl,” “I Got Rhythm” and “My Mammy.”

Finally, a Golden Oldies Spectacular wouldn’t be complete without a “girl group,” and Martha and the Vandellas are one of the best of all time.  A great Motown act, they had 26 hit records including 12 top ten hits.  “Heatwave” and “Dancin in the Streets” were million sellers and “Heatwave” was nominated for a Grammy.  Other hits included “Nowhere to Run,” “Jimmy Mack” and “In My Lonely Room,” and Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Martha and the Vandellas as #96 or the top 100 greatest rock and roll acts of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.
