Natural healing helps SAD pets smile through the winter blues

If your dog or cat is looking a little down in the mouth now that winter is here – don’t despair. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects thousands of pets who suffer depression due to a lack of sunshine.

Nov. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- What can be done to help SAD pet patients?
Reiki, a natural form of healing, can help relieve pets’ sadness and bring about a renewed interest in life – whatever the weather.

Reiki Master, Rob Fellows, finds more people seek help for their pets as summer sun fades into autumnal gloom. “A lack of natural daylight can be very debilitating for dogs and cats to the point they feel ill, lacking in energy and generally disinterested in life,” says Rob whose practice is in Shropshire.  “Seasonal Affective Disorder is a very real problem for some pets, as it is for a vast number of people.  But because pets cannot tell us how ill they feel, owners have to be aware of the signs and know where they can get help.”

Six signs that a pet is SAD…
•   Super sleepy: Apathy and disinterest in life is a sure sign that your pet is missing the sun’s energy
•   Feeling anxious: Anxiety is something pets suffer too. A loss of appetite and uncharacteristic behaviour are tell-tale signs that a pet is unhappy
•   Lacking energy: when the daily walk seems more like a chore than a treat
•   Love or hate food: a pet who is constantly snacking or giving meal times a miss is experiencing a problem and may need to visit the vet
•   Depression: A down in the mouth expression that co-incides with the    on-set of winter could be an indication of  SAD
•   Not ‘normal’: As the dark nights draw in pets can suffer a change in character and behaviour.  SAD could be to blame.

Reiki is an ancient form of natural healing that can be received by the laying on of hands or through Reiki distance healing.  Distance healing allows reiki’s calming properties to be transferred to any pet, anywhere in the world at any time.

As Rob says:  “It’s not easy to snap out of a period of feeling down, especially when there seems no reason for it,” explains Rob. “Seasonal Affective Disorder is a very real condition with debilitating symptoms.  Reiki is natural and non-invasive and is one way to help sufferers and see them regain an interest in life and their loved ones.”
