Follow on Google News | Grauer School Robots Team to Host Robotics FestivalThe Grauer School Shockwave Robotics FIRST Team will host a robotics FIRST Tech Challenge Festival at The Grauer School on December 18, 2010 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
FIRST inspires young people to become science and technology leaders, by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. FTC is designed for those who want to compete head-to-head, utilizing a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Teams including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop a strategy and build robots based upon sound engineering principles. According to Mary Linam, one of the event organizers and a Grauer School parent, “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage in a showcase event that will inspire the community about the FIRST Robotics program. Last year the Grauer School team won the Tech Challenge Motivate Award twice; this award celebrates the team that exemplifies the essence of the competition through team spirit and enthusiasm. The team was also on the winning alliance at the FTC Championships in San Jose, CA, earning them a place to compete at the FIRST World Championships that were held in Atlanta, GA. We hope that this event at the school will encourage robotic advances and provide innovative inspiration to community spectators.” The Grauer School is an independent grades 6-12 college preparatory day school; its students commit several thousand hours to humanitarian and ecological service annually, locally and globally. The School, now celebrating its 20th year in San Diego’s North County, is a UNESCO affiliated institution.
