Did you know that having a messy desk wastes 1 hour of your time in the office? Did you also know that socializing, unplanned telephone calls, and drop-in visitors would waste a further 1 hour? In an 8-hour work day, 2 hours of wasted time is huge. If you are running a business, this figure is a cause for concern. So how do you eliminate wasted time in the office?

There are two types of people when it comes to time management at work. One type is called the "time wasters." These are the people who do not have to-do lists or an agenda for the day. These are the people who come into the office with a messy desk and leave it just the way it was. The other type is called "time fanatics." These are the people who are obsessed with time management. They have desk calendars, computer calendars, journals, organizers and trackers. These are the people who have everything on their desks organized by type, by subject and sometimes even by color.

Although it may seem better to choose the second type, remember that time management is also about balance. A good time manager utilizes tools necessary for time management but is also flexible enough to allow changes to happen within the day. So to become one, here are 2 tips to develop time management at work. Get Internet #1 - Office Time Management Skills @ http://timecure01.webs.com and find out how you can Maximize Your Time!

Make a list and utilize them

The purpose of creating a list is to map out your daily tasks. It will act as a visual representation of what you need to do for the day and also as a constant reminder for you to get them done. However, there are some people who make lists, which are too long and too overwhelming that it actually defeats its own purpose. To create a useful list you can apply the "3 Lists of 3 Method." This means that as soon as you arrive at the office you need to make 3 lists. The first list should include 3 tasks that you need to get done by day's end. The next list should include 3 tasks that you will try to do if there is enough time. The last list should include 3 tasks that you will eventually find time to do. By keeping the list this short and simple, you can utilize it effectively.

The reward system

Whenever you complete a major task ahead of time, learn to reward yourself. Give yourself break by heading out to the office pantry to make some coffee. This system only motivates you to do more out of your day. However, discipline should always be applied in this system. Small tasks like photocopying, e-mailing or printing should not be rewarded as they are not major accomplishment. Completing these small tasks is the reward in itself.

Time management at work can easily be achieved using the 2 tips mentioned. These are simple and easy-to-do steps anyone can accomplish. Remember that you don't want to be a time waster or a time fanatic, what you want is to become a good time manager.
